Been detained?

For junior high students, lunch is a sanctuary compared to the rest of the school day.  However, some students can’t enjoy the privilege because of the dreaded lunch list.  Everyday the lunch aides summon students to the teacher for lunch detention.  Over the last few months, there seems to have been an increase of kids heading to Mrs. Kinne’s room and to the 7th grade wing.

Mrs.  Akin acknowledged the increase in lunch detentions.  She feels that the consequence of lunch detention will deter some students from forgetting or neglecting their assignments.

Not all students who have gotten lunch detention go there often. Natalie Zembsch said, “I’ve only gotten lunch detention once and I don’t want to be there again.”

Darren Heigel shared, “I’ve only been 4 times because I don’t usually forget my homework.”

The concern seems to be about those who go everyday.  A student who wished to be referred to as Anonymous said, “I have lost count of how many times I’ve had lunch detention.”

Mrs. Clay  shared there are 4-5 lunch detainees on a typical day.

Mrs. Redick acknowledged that some students are there more than others but the teams are committed to helping students deliver better work habits so they are ready to transition to high school.
