Are you a huge fan of Harry Potter? Have you read every book and watched every movie? Or, perhaps, have you never watched a single movie? Do you hate reading and don’t even want to think about reading a single Harry Potter book? Well, no matter what your stance is on this series, it’s always fun to learn about yourself, right? People always love to learn more about themselves, whether it’s something about their personalities or something that they would be skilled at. The House and Patronus quizzes on Pottermore.com are no exception to this feeling — they’re great for finding out more about yourself!

Pottermore.com is a website associated with J.K. Rowling that publishes a lot of her works, and it’s associated with her and her different series as a whole. One of the most famous, if not the most famous aspects of Pottermore are the House and and Patronus quizzes that anyone can take. The only things that you need to take this quiz are an email that you can gain access to to verify your account, and a willingness to learn more about yourself. When you go to take the quiz, all you have to do is sign up for an account, and then go to your email and verify the account — it’s that simple!

The first quiz is the House quiz, which features four different Houses you can be sorted into based on your personality and things that are important to you. The four houses are Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, all which have their distinct qualities. Gryffindors are often known as the brave and courageous ones, Slytherins as cunning and sly individuals, Ravenclaws as intelligent and wise, and Hufflepuffs as patient and loyal. For this quiz, you have to answer about ten questions about yourself, like what pet you would bring to Hogwarts. Once you finally get your House, there are links provided for you to learn even more about your very own House.

The second quiz on Pottermore is the Patronus quiz. A Patronus is a spell that you can cast that takes the shape of an animal that serves to protect you and others from evil creatures. This quiz is also decided upon based on questions that you answer, and there are 142 Patronuses that you can possibly get, some being more rare than others. The format is very similar to the House quiz — but this one has you choose quickly between words and you choose the word that you like the most.

I had some friends in Mrs. O’s classroom make accounts and take both of the quizzes. Not all of these people had read a Harry Potter book or even watched a movie, so it was interesting to see what their results were. One of these students was Des Colangelo, who has never read a Harry Potter book or watched a Harry Potter movie. His House was Slytherin, and he was very satisfied with this because he wanted to be a “sneaky snake.” His Patronus was a calico cat, and he was very satisfied with this because he likes cats. Another student, April Carlson, took the quizzes when she’s only watched two movies, but still enjoyed the quizzes just the same. April’s House was Hufflepuff, and even though she doesn’t know much about the Houses, she liked Hufflepuff because a lot of other people got it. Her Patronus was a stoat, which she liked a lot because stoats are really cute but also a little mean, which she thought described her well. Both of these students enjoyed the quiz and would recommend it to others.

There were also two other students who took the quiz who had a little experience with the Harry Potter series. One of these students was Erik Matthews, who has only read one book but has watched all the movies. His House was Hufflepuff, which he liked a lot since they’re kind and like to have fun, which he thinks fits him very well. Erik’s Patronus was a black and white cat, and he liked that a lot because cats are fast and intelligent. Another student, Danielle Pudney, took the House quiz and got Slytherin. She wasn’t satisfied with this at all, because she doesn’t like Slytherin and wanted to get Hufflepuff instead. Danielle’s Patronus was a calico cat, and she likes cats a lot, so she was happy with the result. Both of them would also recommend the quiz to others, even if they had never been exposed to Harry Potter.

The last three people who took the quiz were Leah Oughton, Mrs. O, and myself. All of us have read all the books and watched all the movies, so we were pretty experienced while taking these quizzes. Leah took the House quiz and got Ravenclaw, and while she was surprised because she expected to get Hufflepuff, she was still pleased with her results. In the Patronus quiz, Leah got a Saint Bernard, which also surprised her since she didn’t expect to get a dog at all. Mrs. O took the House quiz and got Hufflepuff, and was extremely satisfied with this because she had taken the quiz before and gotten Hufflepuff, so it was nice to get the same results. Mrs. O’s Patronus was a black mare, and she was very satisfied because she thought that it was super cool. When I took the House quiz, I got Hufflepuff , which I was happy about because that was the house that I wanted to get. My Patronus was an orangutan, which I absolutely hate, since I don’t like monkeys and I got teased by a lot of people once I saw what I got. All three of us agree that this is a good quiz for people, no matter how much Harry Potter they’ve read or seen.

Hopefully this has convinced you, the readers, to take these fun quizzes on Pottermore whenever you have free time. If you get a result that you really like or dislike, feel free to share them in the comments!
