NYC–Cody Izzo, GHS Class of 2014, is now a broadcasting student at SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury. He is president of the broadcasting club and a member of the radio station WGFR. During high school, he was the director and producer of the school’s television station GTV, and played an integral role in the Eagles Media Center.

Cody traveled to New York City for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association conference four times throughout high school to learn more about improving the Eagles Media Center. This year Cody is in the honored position as a Speaker/Presenter at the conference. He is presenting the following workshops to the conference attendees who come from schools all over the country:

Producing Content for High School Television and Online Media

High School Television can be an amazing creative outlet for students, but a shortage of good content could make your viewers uninterested in watching. This panel will provide an overview of what makes content interesting for students, while maintaining the balance between educational content and creative content. It will also provide ideas and methods for turning television content into online media for websites like YouTube.

Promoting Creativity and Education in High School Television and Online Video

Advising a student-run television station comes with its own unique set of challenges. This panel will cover different methods of advisement that can encourage students to be creative, while still producing content that is appropriate for school. This panel is told from a former student’s perspective on what works, and what doesn’t, with input from advisers past and current advisers.

Cameras, Screens, and Everything in Between

From an iPad and YouTube, to a fully stocked control room; the equipment you use can make or break your production. However, cheap equipment doesn’t mean a bad production, and expensive equipment doesn’t mean you’re ESPN. This panel will cover what kinds of equipment is used for producing and broadcasting television, as well as some ways of using the equipment, and how to make quality productions on any budget.
