Better By The Dozen

Good things always come in pairs. Well how about 7 pairs? How great is that! The Basketball/Cheerleading season for the 2014-15 year is almost over. This winter season has been like no other. The number of seniors chosen for the WAC North Exceptional Senior team has quadrupled since the past year. This year 14 seniors have been chosen for the WAC North Exceptional Senior team. 3 basketball players, Daniel Diaz, #10, Morgan Ritter, #24, Raven Pink, #42 and 11 senior cheerleaders. The senior cheerleaders are Jenny Metzger, Ché White, Katelyn Keller, Kara Huszar, Shelby Cull, Nicole Marchese, Emily Bailey, Sarah Ostrowski, Cheyenne Baker, Emilia Herlitz, and Maria Stjernen.

The basketball players were chosen as Exceptional Seniors based on both their stats and the team’s ranking in the league. The cheerleading rubric to be chosen as an Exceptional Senior is a bit more complex. Our scoring sheets were set up with our photograph, our name and then a list of categories that we were judged upon. All scores were out of 10 except for appearance and attitude/sportsmanship, which is out of 5: Motions, Sidelines/Participation, Jumps, Spirit/Enthusiasm, Appearance, and any other comments the coach would like to write down.

To clarify a bit, cheerleaders are scored only at boys’ basketball games by the opposing team’s coach. As you read this you may be thinking, “This is amazing, how can I support and celebrate this year’s Exceptional Seniors?” Come to the Exceptional Seniors Game!! It is scheduled for March 13, 2015, at Canajoharie High School. Go and support our WAC North Seniors to victory!!!
