Galway Alumni visit PLTW classes

GALWAY–The annual Project Lead the Way Alumni Day took place Friday, December 19th. Galway graduates that were involved in PLTW classes return and talk to the students who are presently taking the PLTW courses. The graduates talk about where they are in their life, whether it be in college or in the career field. The returning alumni this year were Layla Petruzelli, Matt Conti, Travis Longsworth, Vince LaTerra, Kristen Houghton and Mike Kennedy.

Layla and Matt are currently attending RIT but are at different stages. Layla is a fourth year student and Matt is a second year student, but they are both in the chemical engineering program. Travis was a student in Tec Smart during his senior year at Galway and is now a freshman at Siena. Vince graduated from Syracuse in 2012 and is currently working with Bonaccio Construction . Mike is working in the field of nanotechnology and he graduated from Hudson Valley. He actually went overseas, all the way to China to do work.

I’ve personally have had the opportunity to attend four Alumni Days and every year I leave with more information. The alumni give you the most accurate information because they are living it. It’s great to know what to expect about college life. They give you all the ins and outs of their classes and daily schedule. It’s especially important if you plan on majoring in what they are currently majoring in. I will definitely return next year for this Alumni Day, but I’ll actually get to be a part of it and answer questions. It’s very important especially for the younger students; it’s possible you’ll be able to inspire them.
