Changing it up a bit here, I talked to Kara Ferguson. Kara is an avid member of the school’s drama club. Kara has been in theater for 5 years, she is currently the club president as well as starring as the lead role in “Peter Pan” in this year’s production.
Kara plans to continue theater in college as she wants to minor in theater. Kara will be attending SUNY Geneseo in the fall with a major in Adolescent Education in English. She plans to use this education to become a middle school English teacher and she would love to be the drama director wherever she ends up teaching.
I asked Kara what she wished to accomplish her last year at Galway? “I want to really stand out and try to challenge myself. This role is very different from the ones I’ve played in the past. I usually play sweet girls like Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ or Liesl in ‘The Sound of Music.’ Peter is special and out of my comfort zone. I want to push myself and pull it off.”
Kara’s biggest accomplishment would be how much she had grown as a performer since 2022. She is currently working on performing her 16th and 17th show at the same time. She is very proud of how her confidence has grown which has greatly improved her stage presence.
All her accomplishments here at Galway have all come from the stage or music room. She would like to thank her directors for that. “Thank you for giving me a chance. I really feel that now I can do anything that’s thrown at me, and that’s because I’ve gotten the chance to play so many different types of characters, even when it wasn’t the part I originally thought I’d play.”
Some final thoughts Kara has before she leaves: “The Drama Club mostly consists of middle school students. I’m actually one of only two seniors. I’ve gotten close with a lot of the younger kids and it will be sad leaving them behind. I hope my schedule aligns with future shows and I’ll be able to come back and watch them continue to perform. Theater is such a safe and beautiful place for everyone to express themselves. So keep performing, and keep being you.”
