OPINION: Third party candidates should be considered

OPINION: Third party candidates should be considered

This so called democracy is plagued by the infestation of lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.  Wants and needs overwhelm our common sense and judgment.

The simplicity of the solution for our epidemic is overlooked.  We need to give a third party candidate a chance to nurture different societal values .  Stop the corruption of the Democratic and Republican parties by considering third party candidates.

Third party candidates typically don’t have the financial backing to get their platforms out to voters.  To begin with campaign funds are usually not as readily available as they are for the major parties and then perhaps because their campaigns can be easily overshadowed by the Democrat and Republican campaigns, they lack the five percent swing in the polls needed to have their campaign funds matched by the government, yet another advantage the two major party powerhouses have.   Then, when it comes to the most efficient way to get your message out to the masses, the television, the candidates are denied the opportunity to be part of the nationally televised debates because they have to have 15 percent of the Electoral College’s votes in order to be invited.

Whether the party you cast your vote for is Libertarian, Green, or Constitutional, a new choice is what we so desperately need so please stop the monopoly over our government.

The Constitutional party follows the Republican Party a little bit like a pet, and the Green party does the same for the Democratic Party. On the other hand,  the Libertarian party seems be a median in this 2012 election. The Libertarian party is for less restrictions and more freedom. They believe gay marriage should be legal because it is the people’s choice. On the other hand they also believe in fewer restrictions with guns.  As for taxes, they don’t want to tax wages because they want to end the tax evasion that occurs when some people are paid under the table. They are for a 20 percent tax on everything else instead.

The simple fact is they are so unknown that many people won’t vote for them. If their ideas do not reflect your interest, then at least choose another third party. Stop the strangle-hold the two parties have on our government.
