Profile of the Day: Meet Megan

Profile of the Day: Meet Megan

By Brooke Martin, Grade 7

A lot of kids in middle school love The Hunger Games books.  The series takes place in a future world, but the heroine, Katniss Everdeen, may not be as far away as you think.  A little bit of Katniss could be inside Galway Junior High’s Megan Izzo.

Megan, a Hunger Games fan, shares some characteristics with Katniss.  Just like the girl on fire, Megan’s most prized possession is her bow and arrow although the closest she comes to hunting is hunting for baskets of Easter eggs with her family.

Another thing Megan has in common with the tribute of District 12 is her sister.  Though Megan’s sister Emily is older, not younger, the two share a close relationship, just as Katniss does with her sister Prim.

Megan also has pets in common with Katniss.  She has one cat, Diva, who you can tell by her name is just as dramatic as Buttercup in the popular series.  As well as having two dogs and some fish, Megan ahs a rabbit named Coal, after the color of his fur.  Coal is the main industry of District 12, Katniss’ “hometown”.

Megan even has the same pet peeve as Katniss.  Just as Katniss dislikes her handler Effie and her three stylists for chatting endlessly about minor things Katniss doesn’t really care about, Megan hates it when people irritate her.  Like the hunter of District 12, Megan prefers the quiet.
