Martin on Movies: Jane Eyre

Martin+on+Movies%3A+Jane+Eyre

By: Lindsay Martin

“Jane Eyre” is a romantic, drama based movie set in the 19th century. Jane Eyre leaves Thornfield Hall because she worked as a governess for an arrogant and cruel master, Edward Rochester. Rochester’s arrogance and behavior have tested Jane’s ability to recover from her depression. Jane has no where to go, and she gets help from a clergyman, St. John Rivers. As she tries to make a better life for herself, Jane looks back at her past that led to her escape, and wonders if her past has truly left her.

The story of Jane Eyre was written in a book by Charlotte Bronte that was published in 1847. It became very popular which helped it eventually become a classic and timeless story. There have been many different versions of this book over the years, in the form of other books and movies.

I saw the trailer for the movie, and from what I saw I really liked it. It seemed like an intense romantic drama with very good actors and a good storyline, with twists throughout. The trailers made it seem mysterious, and I kept wanting to see more and more, but obviously I couldn’t because it just showed only a couple minutes of the movie. The movie was released on March 11th in NYC and Los Angeles, but it opened in more cities on March 18th. I’m not sure if its playing around here yet.

I’ve never seen or heard of any actors in this movie, but the main character Jane Eyre is played by Mia Wasikowska who played Alice in Wonderland.

I think you should check the movie out, even if it’s just watching the trailer. You may actually like it.
