6 a.m. at Dad’s house is the smell of chimney smoke coming from the basement. It’s the way warm clothes from the dryer feel on your skin.

6 a.m. at Dad’s house is the taste of peppered bacon. It’s the sound of coffee brewing.

6 a.m. at Dad’s house is the sound of water running in the bathroom and hangers clinking in my closet.

6 a.m. at Dad’s house is the way the wind blows on your face when you step outside. It’s the bus coming up at the hill at 7 a.m.
