Congratulations to the Make America Green Again Envirothon team who traveled to SUNY Cortland last week to compete at the state event. Abby Conti, Julia Gillson, Carter Larson, Marleigh Morse, and sophomore Nathaniel McDevitt’s team came in 18th in the state out of 38 teams!
Nathaniel commented that he was very happy with how the team placed, and in particular, was proud of how they did with the Aquatics category. He said the highlight of their trip was the dinner which came from a giant buffet. The steak was the best item, in his opinion.
Marleigh enjoyed spending time with the team, and she thought Current Issues was their strongest category in the competition.
Julia found it very interesting how different teams presented the same prompt during the top presentations. Mini golfing with the team was another highlight.
Mr. Levin, Science Club advisor, said, “I would say the best part of the trip is seeing students interact with each other outside of the classroom setting. Getting to see who they are, the genuine person, especially the seniors who have grown so much since grade 9/10.”
Mrs. Clark, Science Club advisor for the Junior High, commented, “Seeing the students interact outside the classroom setting was my favorite part. I was also impressed by the students’ willingness to take part in the event in the first place, despite missing the awards ceremony in person and having to travel home early (Nathaniel) for the track meet. In an age (and at an age), where environmental issues can often take a back seat, these students showed that it is a priority.”
Abby shared, “My highlight would be walking through the forests in between taking all the different topic tests. It was nice to be unplugged from technology and fully immersed in nature on a beautiful morning.”
