There are so many international ball players that have come to the US to play, it’s not a bad thing but it does take away from any hopes of other leagues than those in the US or Japan. I think that the World Series should include all countries that can provide teams.
The US leagues have benefited greatly from the international players and are really helping get more action in the game. There are so many Hall of Fame players that are from places in South America and Japan but that makes you think, if there are so many good players from other countries why don’t they have their own leagues? And why can’t the world series be represented by anything other than American teams?
Here is some info to shed light on the answers to these questions:
- The World Baseball Classic is a worldwide competition that is the equivalent of an actual world championship. This features teams from everywhere in the world such as Japan, Canada, Venezuela and many other countries too. This tournament helps players that are in US leagues play with people from their own native countries which really helps create more diversity in baseball and expose more places to American baseball.
- There would be many problems with travel and costs. Also some problems this year arose with some players refusing to play due to not being insured. One player this is an example of is “Carlos Correa” who will not be in the world classic this year. This also affects many others on the Puerto Rican team who might not be in the classic this year.
- The first “World Series” took place in 1903 but since the US was the only country in the world with real competitive baseball so it wasn’t truly an international competition.
Overall there are many reasons why there is not a true “World series” but there is at least a baseball classic.
