Most of Galway’s students do clubs or sports. But have you ever thought about joining Drama Club? Chances are you have.
Drama Club is a really fun club that everyone should look into. Maybe you don’t like having the spotlight on you but you really like building things, you could be part of the crew. Drama club cast and crew both have important roles in the yearly musical.
Being part of the cast may mean that you have to stay after school almost everyday, but it is worth it.
Every year there is a new musical too! In the past few years the musicals that we have put on are; The Little Mermaid, High School Musical, and this year is James and the Giant Peach.
So far I have been in both High School Musical and James and The Giant Peach, and both plays have their own qualities to offer. I was part of the ensemble and felt like that was a really cool play to be in. Comparing it to this year’s play, I would say it had less of a whimsical feeling but a really fun play to be in. I am also an ensemble member this year too.
Being in the cast means you have to learn dances and songs, and it’s really fun! If you are really confident on stage that might mean that you could be a main character. But the ensemble is also a crucial part of the play too. The ensemble is in charge of being not only the background but the scene.
The crew is mostly in charge of making set pieces and making sure the behind the scenes are going smoothly, though they don’t necessarily go on stage but they are a big part of the musical. Without them there is no set.
You should definitely consider joining Galway Drama Club! Oh yeah don’t forget to go to the play April 4th and 5th at 7:00 and the 6th at 2:00–there might be a shark!
