Picture it. You’re in between sports and don’t want to start from scratch when it arrives. Going to the gym isn’t a viable option. It’s too cold to work outside. So where do you go?
My answer to that question is our very own weight room! We had gone a couple of times in XC so I had a general grasp of what the machines did and how to use them. I didn’t know what I should do or what to work out.
One day Officer Bedell walked into the weight room for check ins and struck up a conversation with me. I told him about my struggles and he gave me a rough outline of what I should do. I am so thankful that he did that because it helped out with a lot of things in the future. Everytime we see each other in the weight room he’ll always talk me up and tell everyone how great my form is which is so sweet.
Now that Officer Bedell gave me a push in the right direction I was off. I was doing the very simple routine every day. About a week later, Mr. Darlington walked into the weight room to work out. He asked about what I was doing. I told him what I had been doing and I knew immediately by his face that it was all wrong. He then took the time and explained everything that I now know about. He fixed my form and gave me information about how and when to exercise what. LOTS of very helpful information! I am eternally grateful that he took (and continues to take) the time to help me out and lets me improve. I’ve only been going to weight room for 3 months but I have already seen tremendous progress. For example, I’ve gone from being able to deadlift 10 lbs to 110 lbs!
Now, instead of sticking between 3 machines with no idea what I’m doing I have a weeklong schedule already planned out. Mr. Darlington and I meet up together on Fridays to do legs. It’s always the highlight of my week!
For anyone thats looking for a way to stay in shape, make new friends, or even just to have fun (around 7th period I feel myself getting excited to get changed and go work out every single day) I would 100% recommend going to weight room. There are so many machines that you’ll get to use and it’s all free. Now is the time to walk, jump, or sprint your way to the weight room!
