Congratulations to the Galway Senior High Jazz Band for placing FIRST in the Annual Jazz Challenge Competition! They won the Centers Health Care $500 donation to their school’s music program!!

The Field Marketing Manager of Centers Health Care, Helen Kalinkewicz, stated the following in a press release:

We would like to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to all of the schools that participated in our competition. It was such a joy to witness the dedication, talent and excitement of the students and their band leaders. One of our Administrators remarked that this was the best entertainment that he ever saw in a nursing home setting, in over thirty years of nursing home administration! Thank you for bringing the community into our homes and surrounding the residents, staff and community with such beautiful music. A very special thank you to our Judge, Mr. Scott Larsen. His knowledge and expertise were a wonderful addition to our Jazz Challenge. We are very grateful to him for sharing his time with us and making this all possible. We look forward to making this a yearly event!

“The competition was at Gloversville and we had to play 4 songs. It was a rewarding  experience and a great way to interact with the community,” stated Justin Matthews, senior and tenor sax player.

Jim Wang, junior who plays the alto sax commented, “It was a good experience. It’s nice to play music with people who have the same interests.”
