For years everyone wondered what it is a Dean of Students/ Athletic Director does at a school. Well fear not, for I have the answer. For my column this month I chose Galway’s own Mr.Kocak.

How long have you been in your profession?

11 years–9 as a Social Studies teacher, 2 as an administrator. I began my career in Syracuse and then went to Hudson Falls and on to Galway!

What did you do before becoming Dean of Students?

Teacher- Social Studies

Who or what inspired you to do this job or any in the past?

Past teachers and coaches- I followed their path. They were great inspirations to me and I wanted to pass that along.

What is the favorite part about your job (past or present)?

Seeing students succeed in whatever it is they find important, whether it be athletics, music, academics etc.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Galway School?

10- But we can always improve and I love hearing ways to do that!

Do you regret becoming the Dean of Students?

No. It is a great position as I get to continue working with students, just in a different capacity.

Favorite sport and why?

Basketball- The most enjoyable to play and watch..BUT I DO LOVE ALL SPORTS!

Favorite board game to play?

It is not a board game, but I love to play Uno!

What do you think we should improve for behavior here at Galway?

Increase school spirit and student involvement in  all activities.

Favorite book to read?

I love reading all books that have to do with history and/or athletics! I am currently reading a book titled, “The One Minute Manager.”
