Free food +school pride+trucks=a good time

“It was great to see students that can work hard and play hard together.”

You know you’re in Galway when you arrive at the bus garage and there are trucks lined up and pigs running around. What?!

On Wednesday May 7th, 150 people gathered to watch the Varsity baseball game and take part in a completion against Saint Johnsville. This competition was against the two marketing classes of the schools to see how many students each school could get to attend the game. The object of the game was to plan and implement a marketing campaign that attracts as many spectators and students as possible. Each school had to have a written marketing plan and a final report of the game and the people that came.

Even though there were many games like a water balloon toss, Kan Jam, a sponge with water game, football and badminton, many people agreed that the tailgating was the most fun. Members of the business class such as Justin Ceresia, Austin Scheeren and Nate Pawlowski lined up their trucks and put down their tailgates, and just to make it even more fun they lined up the trucks in order from largest to smallest with Scheeren’s Nissan being at the end. Once the the tailgates were down, the barbequing began!

Though not many of the business class members actually knew how to barbeque, sophomore Devin Collins stepped up and took over the hot dogs. With a food certificate, you could get free food! Now who would pass up that opportunity? Tai White would say that the free food was the best part and the main reason that she went. However, even with the free food, Caroline Conti said she loved the games and being able to spend time with her friends.

Even Mrs. Donovan showed up but stayed in her car. Why did she stay in her car? She said that “I wanted to stay out of the way of the students who were having so much fun”. Which everyone could agree we did. Mrs. Donovan said that it was a great sight to see all of the students smiling, laughing and having so much fun with so much school spirit.

Mr. Mulroy, the business teacher and event organizer, would agree with most of what Mrs. Donovan said. Mulroy stated that the outcome exceeded expectation considering his goal was 100 people and 150 showed up. He wanted to thank Mrs. Wilday for supplying the games that the business students created and wanted to thank Mrs. Donovan for her support and maintenance for their help. Mr. Mulroy even said that Coach K, the varsity baseball coach, along with the players was happy and excited with the turn out of the game and the support of the crowd.

So, thank you and congratulations to the business students for organizing such an awesome event. Putting it up in Facebook to draw interest was great and it did manage to get a lot of students and spectators together for a great time. Seeing Mr. Mulroy get hit with a pie in the face was also an amusing site. As Mrs. Donovan said, “It was great to see students that can work hard and play hard together.”
