Envirothon 2013

Galway+Gamma+Rays
Galway Gamma Rays

SARATOGA STATE PARK– Aquatics. Forestry. Soils. Wildlife. The Galway Gamma Rays competed in these categories and more at the annual Saratoga Regional Envirothon at the Saratoga State Park May 7.

The Gamma Rays team was made up of seniors Stephen Garney, Paige Galloway Hammond, Hannah Smith, and Matt Conti, and sophomore Gabriella Urban. The Science Club members are advised by biology teacher Emily Flores, and Earth Science teacher, Paul Levin. Mr. Levin accompanied the group to the competition, “We had a gneiss day, and the kids worked really hard.”

The Gamma Rays (clearly the best named group of all), came in second place in the Aquatics category. “I couldn’t have asked for anything better for my last Envirothon experience,” reflected Paige Galloway Hammond, who has participated in the competition since her freshman year.

Congratulations to the Gamma Rays!

First of all, I think that the Gamma Rays is the best name for an environthon team, and that second place is most impressive when going against big schools that probably have this for a class period. Way to kick butt!
