Cheerleading competition requires dedication and drive

BROADALBIN-PERTH–This past Saturday, February 16, 2013 the Galway cheerleaders went to Broadalbin-Perth to compete against nine other schools. These nine schools included Scotia-Glenville, Fort Plain, Glens Falls, Mohonasen, Ravena, South Glens Falls, and Stillwater.

Each team performed a routine that consisted of two dances and two cheers.  The routines showed off all the hard work each team has done during the season. The Galway competition team included Camille Milton, Jesse Uline, Shelby Cull, Nicole Marchese, Emily Bailey, Cheyenne Baker, Carly Gutto, Chelsea Cucci, Ashley Fredericks, Alaina Foust, Kara Huszar and Kendra Allen.

Preparing for a competition like this takes a lot of extra effort. We worked an hour extra every day after our regular cheer practices. We also held some Saturday practices where we worked for three hours. Our competition team worked hard this season to make motions tight and clean, to have stunts that go up every time with perfection, and have cheer speeds that are fast enough and voices loud enough to blow the crowd away. We worked out so we stayed in shape and build up our stamina almost everyday too.

The girls on the team believed we had an angel watching over us towards the end of the season. We had something to motivate us to be in it to win it. The girls on the team wrote Izzo #11 on each of their shoes to remind us we have someone watching over us, and that Andrew was there in spirit on those bleachers watching us and cheering for us. Before we went on the mat to perform we gathered together and cheered “Fly High.”

Galway ended up bringing home the third place trophy this Saturday. The coaches, Mrs.Sartin and Mrs. Moffat, believe we did a great job this season and that our performance went really well. They gave us confidence that we are all winners and that they are proud of us even though we took home the third place trophy. The competition this year was a close win, and the teams were really talented that Galway was up against. I’m so proud of my teammates and all the hard work we put into our routine this season.
