Galway Sends 6 to Glens Falls Civic Center

The Galway varsity wrestling team took a one hour and thirty minute ride up to the land of the panthers-Hoosick Falls; on 2/2/2013 to wrestle in the class C tournament.   Overall as a team, the Eagles placed 6th out of 13 teams. We had 3 finalists; Nico Riccio at 106, Jordan Sartin at 113, and Steven Culbert at 145. They all wrestled extremely well but only Jordan Sartin was able to end the night with a win, becoming a Class C Champion as a 7th grader. Each of those 3 finalists is guaranteed a trip to the Glens Falls civic center next weekend, along with Ryan Pappalau who took 3rd at 160 pounds, John Mulligan who placed 4th at 170 pounds, and Andrew Gilchrist who came in 3rd at 182 pounds.  Overall, Galway now has 6 wrestlers going to compete for a Section 2 title, and a hopefully a birth into the state tournament.   A sour note on the day was in the early afternoon, when Jay Oakes was wrestling the Greenville 132 pounder. It had been a pretty good match up until a certain point. That point being when they went out of bounds and Jay had hit his head hard.  He continued to wrestle and won the match for his 99th career win. He was bound and determined to get his 100th win, but unfortunately the examiners would not let Jay wrestle, and was taken out of the tournament, ending the season early. Being a junior,he still  has another whole year to look forward to and make another run at a Section 2 title. So all in all it was a good day, in Galway in sending 6 out of 10 to the State Qualifiers in Glens Falls, as well as every member of the team scoring points to place us 6th in the Class C tournament.  For the 6 still competing, the tournament will take place at the Glens Falls civic Center on 2/8/2013-2/9/2013
