The girls’ varsity basketball team, it’s what they do!

The girls’ varsity basketball team, it’s what they do!

The girls’ varsity basketball team is off to a great start. The team this year consists of a couple seniors that will not return next year to play on the team, but luckily the team also consists of a good amount of juniors and even some sophomores. As a cheerleader, the girls’ teams are both enjoyable to watch and cheer for.

The girls’ varsity team consists of; Erin Breckenridge, Junior, Erica Chase, Junior, Paige Galloway-Hammond, Senior, Amanda Gould, Senior, Hayley Martin, Senior, Tegan Matthews, Senior, Grace Milton, Senior, Lindsey Naughton, Junior, Raven Pink, Sophomore, Morgan Ritter, Sophomore, Felicia Synder, Junior, Abby Spagnola, Senior, and Shelby Suits, Junior. Most, if not all of these girls have been playing basketball for years and it shows. Their team slogan is “It’s what we do” which in my opinion is perfect for them because they basically just go out on the court and do what they do best.

As of right now, the varsity girls’ record is 4 wins and 3 losses, and hopefully after tonight’s game it will be 5 wins. I encourage as many people as possible to attend the games and cheer on our team and show your support. The next and last five upcoming games are; January 3rd against Northville at 6:00pm, January 9th against Saratoga Central Catholic at 6:00pm, January 18th against St. Johnsville at 6:00pm, January 22nd against Heatly at 6:00pm, and January 25th against Canajoharie at 6:00pm. The girls’ junior varsity team plays at 6:00pm and then after the game is over, the varsity game usually starts around 7:30-8:00pm.

As for the cheerleading team update, over the break we did not have any practices or games but starting this Friday our team will start practicing for competition. At first Mrs. Sartin and Mrs. Moffatt were unsure if we would be able to attend competition because we might not have had enough girls to participate. We needed a minimum of ten girls and fortunately we reached our goal. The girls that are participating in the competition are; Myself, Chelsea Cucci, Ashley Fredericks, Kara Huszar…….The competition takes place on February 16th at Broadalbin Perth Central School, come out and support your cheerleaders!
