Welcome, Ms. Slosberg

Welcome, Ms. Slosberg

A Lord of the Rings poster. Other movie posters on desks waiting to be hung. A large collection of books ranging from John Green to Kathryn Stockett. Ms. Slosberg’s classroom is welcoming to students.

Ms.Slosberg gets her inspiration from many sources. Her inspiration to pursue a teaching career came from teachers she had in the past. “It wasn’t really what happened during the lesson,” she says, “but more of the conversations with teachers I’d have after class. They would make me feel confident and happy about myself and my academics.” Being able to relate to her teaches in and out of school made her want to have the same connection with others.

When asked if she could be any character from any book who she would choose to be, she hesitated, but she finally admitted she’d be Ann Bolelyn from the book The Other Bolelyn Girl. She didn’t hesitate at all when sharing her favorite books,“Definitely Jane Eyre and Lord of the Rings.

Before she launched her teaching career, she was a journalist. She wrote for the Free George, a travel magazine for upstate New York. She also writes poetry when she has the free time.

High schoolers can be wild creatures. As hormonal, crazy and ignorant as we are, teachers still seem to take one for the team and put up with us. Ms. Slosberg shared the pros and cons were of teaching a high school class. “The pros? You all have opinions. The Cons? “You all have opinions.”

“So far so good,” Ms.Slosberg said of her transition to Galway. “It really helps that all you students are so kind and helpful. I think I’d be lost if it wasn’t for you guys.”

Ms.Slosberg shared she also loves The Avengers. Other than reading comics she loves to play basketball and tennis. Another hobby of hers is singing opera. Instead of going to college to be a teacher she almost went to become an opera singer!

Ms. Slosberg is committed to the students of Galway. She said she is here for the long run, and hopes to eventually be full-time. “I really want to teach every grade. I want to fully know the student body,” she said.
