Halloween is next week

Halloween is next week

By: Kaitee Horstmann
That’s right! It’s that time of the year again when the candy bowl gets busted out and Wal-Mart is full of cheesy costumes. You know you love it. It’s that time of the year when haunted hayrides are opened and you hear chainsaws in your sleep. Well maybe you don’t love it. But how are the little kids taking it?
There have been a lot of rumors floating around Galway School that the annual Elementary Halloween Parade has been cancelled. But what is the truth? The new elementary principal, Mrs. McDougall, has made the decision along with the building team to keep the parade. Great! Right? But it won’t be the same as the years past.

This year the building team’s main concern was about the safety and well-being of the kids. They’ve decided to hold the parade indoors only and only have some parents come into the school to help with costumes. It was first come, first served and all spots have been filled. The junior high and high school students will still have access to the parade. Mrs. McDougall says, “We wanted to let the kids have a chance to show off their costumes to their friends and have fun on Halloween while still keeping their safety in mind. It’s disappointing that not all parents can attend the parade but there isn’t anything we can do. I just hope that the kids still have fun and have some rockin’ costumes!”

What’s going on in the “Big-Kids” world of Halloween this year? What are the hottest costumes and fun activities that are popular for this October 31st?  According to the Chicago Tribune, expect to see some costumes inspired by popular movies, steampunk, and the election.  Also a list of Top 10 Most Popular Costumes 2012 costumes include the following:
1. Witch
2. Vampire
3. Pirate
4. Batman
5. Zombie
6. Vixen
7. Princess
8. Ghost or Nurse (tie)
9. Cat
10. Superman

Just remember to have fun and be responsible this Halloween. Enjoy the Halloween parade and remember that you are never too old to dress up for Halloween! What will you be this year?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone dressed as a Vixen before, that will be interesting. I think I’m going to be a zombie. :3
