Not so new

Not+so+new

By Kaitee Horstmann and Mariah Hayes

For Mr. Diamond, the new algebra and Trigonometry teacher here at Galway, it’s not the amount of students in the the school or the amount of money in his paycheck, but the difference he makes in the lives of Galway students.

Mr. Diamond was a student teacher here at Galway three years ago for Mrs. Herron. In Union Graduate college, they place each of their students into a specific school district so that they can observe teaching styles and get to learn more about running a classroom. During the following two years he frequently substituted for many different teachers here at Galway and just over the summer applied for his new job. He was thrilled to be called for an interview at Galway.  “It’s nice to know that you already like the people you are going to be working with,” Mr. Diamond said.

Mr. Diamond was originally in the field of computer science.  Over time,  he realized that he didn’t enjoy his job. He noticed that the only part he liked about it was teaching people how to do things. So he went back to school and found his path to Galway,  doing something he loves.

Mr. Diamond has noticed the changes in Galway as much as all of us students have. He believes that they are for the good of the school. He believes that if you have a rule it should be enforced . Mr. Diamond is happy to be working with the other new staff and believes that Mr. Healey and Mrs. Donovan are going to do great things for Galway school and that their passion will pay off in the long run.

Mr. Diamond has some some advice to share about following your dream and realizing your dream career. If you want to be a teacher, look into tutoring younger kids to see if you are comfortable teaching others and if you trust yourself. You can also watch other teachers teach their class so you can get a feeling for what it’s like to teach under all different circumstances and in all different subjects. You also should ask yourself if you are passionate about sharing knowledge with others.  Mr. Diamond is proud of the profession and glad he has the opportunity to share knowledge with others.

Good job, Mr. Diamond! Keep up the good work!
