NORTHVILLE–After pulling off an 11-2 win over Mayfield on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles varsity looked to make it two in a row against the winless Northville Falcons. Frank Schwab was given the start on the mound for the first time this season. For Galway, there was no such thing as “runs coming at a premium”, especially in the first inning.

Shane Marshall led off the game with a walk to start the inning. From there, Adam Berlin and Kyle Collins kept the basepaths busy as the Golden Eagles managed to scratch across three runs to start the game. Cody Marshall added the final RBI of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field. However, Northville wouldn’t let that lead hold up. The Falcons worked walk after walk in the first inning, chasing Schwab from the mound after seeing just five hitters in the inning and recording one out. Coach Toby Youngblood opted to go with the right-hander Cody Marshall out of center field. After scoring three runs off of Schwab, the Falcons managed one more run off Marshall that was charged to Schwab however, as it was an inherited runner. After just one inning of play, the Falcons led the contest 4-3.

The Galway bats would not be silenced in the second, as the Golden Eagles managed to put three more runs across to retake the lead at 6-4. In the bottom half, Marshall recorded three strikeouts to put his total at 5 for the game after just 1.2 innings of work. With the Golden Eagles holding onto their lead, they took advantage by cashing in for four more runs in the third inning, taking a 10-4 lead on the Falcons. However, Northville still had some life in them. In the bottom of the inning, back-to-back ground rule doubles made it a 10-5 game. The fourth inning was quiet for both teams, in fact, it was the only scoreless inning of the contest.

Galway plated four runs in both the fifth and six innings. Through 6 innings, the Golden Eagles led 18-6 and Marshall had dealt 11 strikeouts heading into the 7th. The Golden Eagles managed to put tow more runs across in the 7th, taking a 20-6 lead and ending the scoring for the day.

Cody Marshall received the win on the mound (1-1). Galway was helped by the efforts of Kyle Collins and Adam Berlin contributing 3 RBIs each. The rest of the Galway lineup contributed as well as just about everyone if the line up, if not everyone, had a hit. The Golden Eagles managed a whopping 20 hits in the contest. The win puts the Golden Eagles at 3-4 overall, and 2-2 in the WAC. With St. Johnsville and Canajoharie’s losses on Saturday and respectively, the Golden Eagles are in a tie for 3rd place in the North with St. Johnsville (3-3, 4-4).

The loss drops Northville to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the WAC. The Golden Eagles are in action again on Monday as they will look to pull off the upset of defending Class B State Finalists Saratoga Catholic (4-0, 3-0). Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm.
