Cheers to Galway!

Cheers+to+Galway%21+

By Kelly Phillips

BROADALBIN–Saturday February 18th, Galway’s Cheerleading competition team entered the gym at Broadalbin-Perth High School ready to win. After facing seven schools, they ended up taking first place in the small varsity division, and earned the Overall Champions award. Molly Cross also took first place in the Top Gun Tumbler Competition! All the cheerleaders were so excited to hear the results of the competition; some were in tears, as they stood up proud to receive the overall award.

Coached by Ms. Verrigni and Mrs. Moffat, the competition team consisting of Maria Giroux, Katie Pitts, Shaina Schulz, Amanda Kondrat, Ashley Fredericks, Molly Cross, Emily Bailey, Nicole Marchese, Shelby Cull, Cami Milton, Alania Foust, and Michelle Gribben have been training hard since half way through cheerleading season. They have all been putting in an extra hour of practice during the season and on some Saturdays as well. They were all so excited since day one to represent GHS in this competition.

When I asked Cami what she thought about today she said “I am so proud of everyone who competed today and especially Galway for our big win! We were all so excited, and Galway had lots of supporters there, thanks to everyone!”

Other schools at Saturday’s competition included South Glens Falls, Amsterdam, Northville, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Voorheesville, and Averill Park. They all did an amazing job!

When I asked Amanda what were her feelings about today, she said “I’ll start by saying I am so proud of everyone and everything we have accomplished! We would not be able to do it without our coaches, each other, and most of all our fans. They have been great throughout the season. We were all so happy by how many fans we had there. When we performed it was amazing! I had never felt so happy by doing something I love and I’m sure the other girls felt the same way. We left everything we had on that floor and in return we won! It was amazing! We have worked so hard and reached our goal and beyond! I am so proud of everyone! I think we did a great job! I cannot wait for next year to come!”
