Get to know Mrs. Rogers

By Casey Dunleavy, 7th grade

In Amsterdam, NY there is a public school called Wilbur H Lynch Literacy Academy. Why is this important? This is the school where Mrs. Rogers, our new 7th grade Spanish teacher, last worked. Mrs. Rogers is a mom of three who loves to cook, read, and hike. Mrs. Rogers is new to the Galway faculty and already students have opened up to her teaching methods, such as speaking a lot of Spanish even on day one, giving the students a chance to learn quicker and to speak a lot.

Chad Sherman, one of Mrs. Rogers’ students says, “I enjoy going to Spanish class. She teaches us really well, and she helped me get all of the Capitals of Spanish speaking countries fast. She does her job very well”.

Devon Eriole, another student in Mrs. Rogers’ class says, “She is super nice and fun! She has such a great way of teaching Spanish. I look forward to Spanish class every day”.

Matthew Shafer, Marc Luck, Haley Decker, and Jacob Thompson agree, and believe her lessons are so well put together and fun. It appears Mrs. Rogers never overwhelms the class with too much homework, and all seem to agree she is super nice.

After meeting with Mrs. Rogers, I discovered she grew up in Beaver Falls, NY, a place 2 ½ hours away from Galway. She told me when she was in about 7th grade, her favorite subject was not Spanish, but rather it was P.E., Physical Education.

As many of you know, there is some debate as to who is the greater team, the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Socks? Mrs. Rogers proudly said she was a New York Yankee fan!

As a student of Mrs. Rogers myself, I must say, I too look forward to Spanish class every day!
