An Epic Battle – 2011 Poppin’ Kernels Ping Pong Final

By Paige Galloway

Two people faced off to win the Ping Pong Tournament, sponsored by Poppin’ Kernels, but only one prevailed. On Thursday April 14th in the High School Gymnasium, Brady Smith took home the first place trophy becoming the champion of the 4th Annual Ping Pong Tournament. A crowd sat on the bleachers watching Mr. Barrow and Brady Smith face off; playing a series of 5 games to 21 points. The first two games Brady showed off the skills that had brought him this far in the tournament and Mr. Barrow did pretty well in keeping up. The third game, Mr. Barrow showed what he could do and won the third game. Spectators watch this intense competition as the ping pong ball flew from side to side on the table, flew off the table and skimmed the top of the net (or just stopped in front of it).

The fourth game Brady won and the final was over. Brady received the first place trophy and he will also have his name engraved on the plaque outside of Mr. Swain’s room. Mr. Barrow was able to pull through and last until the end; even with his doubts before the final game. After the final a sports management representative interviewed the two competitors.  The questions and answers are shone below:

1. How do you think you played?

Brady: Pretty good

Mr. Barrow: Pretty good not my best.

2. Which game was your hardest?

Brady: It was a tie between Mr. Swain and Matt Wilday during the tournament and Mr. Evans afterward.

Mr. Barrow: The one against Brady.

3. How did you like this tournament? Brady: It was fun.

Mr. Barrow: It’s fun, Mr. Swain has some good ideas.

4. Are you going to participate in more ping pong tournaments?

Brady: Yes

Mr. Barrow: Most likely, yes. Fun to do something different.

5. If there was a volleyball tournament would you participate?

Brady: Yes

Mr. Barrow: Definitely

The Sports Management class would like to say congratulations to Brady for his victory. Keep your eyes open for information on the Volleyball tournament that is coming up soon!
