One of my favorite artists just released an album on the 13th, Born to Die: The Paradise Edition. She’s considered a genre mix of Indie pop and Alternative. Her music is inspired by blues rock, electronica, and at moments Marilyn Monroe. Lana Del Rey came to the world’s attention in the last 6 years, starting when she was 20. At the age of 18, her uncle taught her how to play the guitar and then she started performing in clubs until around the age 20, when she was offered a record deal.
I love Lana Del Rey’s music due to her own original sound that she created. Knowing that she had a difficult past also helps me really get into her music. She suffered from alcohol dependence, and was sent to a boarding school at the age of 14 due to this. She has been interviewed about her childhood alcohol dependence before, with her replying“… My parents were worried, I was worried. I knew it was it was a problem when I liked it more than I liked doing anything else… It was the worst thing that ever happened to me.” After coming back at the age of 18, she became involved with music. Why? Well, “I wanted to be part of a high-class scene of musicians. It was half-inspired because I didn’t have many friends, and I was hoping that I would meet people and fall in love and start a community around me, the way they used to do in the ’60s.” says Lana Del Rey.
The album includes the following songs:
- Born To Die 13. This is What Makes Us Girls
- Off To The Races 14. Without You
- Blue Jeans 15. Lolita
- Video Games 16. Lucky Ones
- Diet Mountain Dew 17. Ride
- National Anthem 18. American
- Dark Paradise 19. Cola
- Radio 20. Body Electric
- Carmen 21. Blue Velvet
- Million Dollar Man 22. Gods $ Monsters
- Summertime Sadness 23. Yayo
- Air 24. Bel Air
Personally, my favorite song is Blue Jeans.
Unfortunately, this album and her previous ones are going to be her only albums. She says ”I don’t think I’ll write another record. What would it say? Everything I wanted to say, I’ve said already.”
