I recently read a book by the name of Caraval by Stephanie Garber, which is part of a trilogy. It was a pretty heavy fantasy and I found it a bit of a hard read in the beginning. Eventually I got used to this new world and how it worked. This book revolves around magic and love. The book opens on her home island, Trista. Scarlett catches her beloved sister, Tella doing something that may not be most pleasant to see. We soon learn that the girls have a cruel father that punishes the other daughter. Tella would do anything to leave the grasp of her father. Scarlett sends a letter to the mysterious Legend every year pleading him to come to Trista, but the Caraval, run by Legend himself is known for never visiting the same place twice. Scarlett grew up with her grandmother telling marvelous stories about her Caraval journey.
Scarlett ends up falling in love despite telling herself the only thing she needs to focus on is finding her sister who was kidnapped. She has difficulty deciding what is real and what is a show, as you can never be too careful about the truth, most of it is for show anyway.
The farther I went into this wonderful world the more I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to leave. This was certainly a book that I could not put down. The amount of times I stood gaping at my book was a lot more than normal (which is zero). This may not be a book for the faint of heart but it was amazing.
Many people would say that books are boring because you never sit at the edge of your seat like you would for a movie, but this was not the case. Each plot twist was better than the last. The ending scene will certainly make you want to read more, well you’re in luck!
