Under the lights of homecoming, the varsity girls’ soccer team edged Mayfield 2–1 in a thriller. After a scoreless first half, Brielle Cameron opened the scoring off an Olivia Davison-Gauss assist, before Mayfield’s Ava Vannostrand forced overtime with a late equalizer.
With seconds left in “Golden Goal” OT, Brielle Cameron raced to a deep ball from Norah Schaperjahn and lofted a shot that slipped through the keeper’s hands at the buzzer. It was a storybook finish for the Eagles. Beena McElhinney’s 15 saves and the defense led by Kaylee Jessop, Mae Budris, Nadia LaBate, and Lilly Jessop, held firm to keep Mayfield’s momentum low. Norah Schaperjahn was the team’s engine all night. The non-league win lifts Galway to 5–2 overall. Congratulations Eagles on the homecoming victory!
