On Saturday, October 4th, San Francisco Giants player Matt Gage was invited to the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame for a signing of cards, practice and game worn jerseys and pants, game used gloves and photos.
It was a great event to volunteer at especially since I got to meet some more people that I will be working with soon at the HOF and also getting to see some behind the scenes conversations with Mr Gage.
Because the NYS HOF hosted the event, they had everybody they needed there in order to decide on inducting Matt Gage into the NYS HOF in 2026.
I was very lucky to also be able to see an in person interview between Matt, his family and the Director of the HOF and my supervisor Mr Rene LeRoux.
The video is now posted online but it was better to see it in person because there was a lot of discussion before letting him know in the interview that he was going to be inducted into the hall.
One of Gage’s statements that left an impression on me: “Just keep chasing your dreams because it doesn’t matter how many people tell you that you’re not good enough just as long as you believe that you can do it and you make the sacrifices that you think are going to put you in the position that you want to be in.”
I would also highly recommend taking a trip over to the NYS Hall of Fame because of it’s great collection of memorabilia. There is so much history involving baseball that you can learn there. Also, it has a great movie theatre room.
It is located right across the street from Parkhurst field in Gloversville.
