Incarceron
By: Dylan Loux
Recently I have come upon the book “Incarceron” write by Catherine Fisher. The book was published in 2007 in the United Kingdom by Hodders and 2010 in United States by Dial Books. When released in the United States it appeared on the New York Times children’s bestseller list.
I decided to read this book after searching our schools library for new books to read, I found this book on the self and just the cover made it look interesting. After reading the back of the book I was sold and wanted to read about the living prison.
Incarceron is a futuristic prison and an automatic world controlled by artificial intelligence. The prison controls everything. It was supposed to incarcerate all criminals in the world and repair their mortals to make the perfect society. It is a closed system and uses a recycling system on all material always reusing it.
This young adult book is centered around the two protagonists Finn, who is a prisoner in Incarceron and Claudia, daughter of the warden of this hidden prison. Finn is not only a prisoner but a child of Incarceron, believes himself to be born from the outside world called the Realm, the only reason he believes this is because of the tattoo of an eagle on his wrist that matches a crystal key he gets. Claudia is a young girl from the Realm; fed up with her father’s secrecy, she plans with her tutor Jared to find the prison her father guards. She decides to break into her father’s study where she finds the same key as Finn.
My opinion of the book “Incarceron” is that was good, but the first 3 to 4 chapters are very slow. The book its self was suspenseful and made me want to read more. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. After a few more books I plan to read the sequel called “Sapphique” and I believe that this one will be as good as the first.
