The Hunger Games series, by Suzanne Collins, is a very popular book series. There are three books in the series: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The Hunger Games is about a resourceful teen girl named Katniss Everdeen, who is a born survivor in a world once known as North America. 100s of years ago, the oceans flooded the land, and a government called the capitol was set up, surrounded by 13 districts. Believing that the Capitol was unfair, the districts created an uprising against the Capitol. The war ended with 12 districts defeated, the 13th obliterated. to punish the districts, every year, they would take a boy and a girl tribute from each district to compete in a televised arena called The Hunger Games. When Katniss takes her sister’s place in the arena, she will face hard choices that weigh survival against tragedy and life against love.

Catching Fire is the sequel to The Hunger Games. It is about Katniss and Peeta after the 74th Hunger Games. The president of the Capitol, President Snow, tells her that her actions could cause a possible uprising.  She tries to “lay low” for a while. But then, she and Peeta are chosen to go to the Quarter Quell, a special hunger games that only happen every 25 years, where 48 tributes are chosen instead of 24.  they will go against other victors who are smart, cunning, and skilled, and worst of all, they all know one another. And, there will be a very special arena. But these victors are angry, and they will do all that they can to stop the games. But President Snow is persistent. Can Katniss and Peeta make allies with the other tributes?

In the third book, Mockingjay, Peeta has been captured by the capitol after a little “stunt” pulled by Katniss in the arena. Now her and other tributes are reviving in District 13, which survived the Dark Days. Now they want Katniss to be the representative for the rebellion. They want her to be the Mockingjay. With District 12, her home, destroyed, and Peeta in the Capitol, can she keep her head and be the Mockingjay?

People should read the Hunger Games trilogy because they have an amazing story and setting along with the right amount of suspense. One example of suspense is at the beginning of the story, the children are getting chosen to participate in the hunger games. Who will get chosen? The story is amazing and the author is very descriptive. Suzanne Collins puts the story in your head like a mental movie, the kind with no commercial breaks and one you want to keep watching. That is why I love The Hunger Games trilogy.

The fans of the trilogy (well, maybe just the movie fans) are arguing over which boy she loves the most. Gale, who she has known since she was 12, or Peeta, who she went into both hunger games with? Who does she love more? Read the books to find out.
