Save…but don’t put your money where your mouth is!

Save+your+money+with+advice+form+CFM+period+4+students
Save your money with advice form CFM period 4 students

By Logan Joseph Amell – Period 4 CFM student

You would be surprised how right your mom was when she said don’t put money in your mouth. As important as money is to one’s everyday life, it is by far one of the nastiest dirty things ever. Money carries more germs than anyone imagines, anything that could get on one’s hand gets on their money. Did you know that 13% of coins and 42% of bills carry unpleasant bacteria? Well yes it does, studies show that up to 95% of bills carry cocaine! Do you know the smell you get on your hands after rolling a roll of quarters or emptying your pocket change into your piggy, well that’s not just the smell of money, that’s the smell of other people’s body odors and skin oils? Skin oils break down after touching iron; therefore you get that smell on your hands from past people who have handled the money. Behind money there’s almost a never ending story, ever got a dollar bill with a message or a whole story or a phone number or just a thousand wrinkles? And all we can do is wonder who and why? The Federal Reserve estimates that the majority of U.S. cash in circulation which is over 829 billion dollars is in countries outside of the United States, this adds millions more to the list of people who could have touched you dollar bills. The only way one can get completely untouched cash is through the use of credit and debit cards, and everyone will say no no don’t use credit cards everything about a credit card is bad. This is not true, the only thing that makes a credit card bad is the way irresponsible people use them. If one was intelligent of the situation then they could make credit cards work for them. You can get a credit card for zero percent interest which basically means you can get whatever you want, whenever and pay for it whenever over time. Another way one could make a credit card work for them is by having a credit card that gets reward points and paying it off every month so you don’t get nailed with interest and you can spend your reward points on anything from vacation to useless garbage you’re going to sell next year in your garage sale anyway, you can also combine your rewards with zero percent and it’s a win win win. Pretty much if you’re responsible with your credit cards it can be a great thing for you.

The best way over all to get ahead in money is a three step situation;
Step 1: when your friends ask you for money or pocket change, don’t give in…
Step 2: when you get home empty your pockets and save all your change in a piggy bank…
Step 3: when your piggy bank is as full as it can get, roll your coins (don’t go to a coinstar you lose money) and deposit them into a savings account that earns you interest

If you follow these steps over and over, and let your money grow as long as you can I guarantee you will come out much farther ahead than when you started, good luck and remember don’t put your money where your mouth is.

    Now I realize how nasty money is! It is very true, if you really think about it the way your money goes around.

    i agree & disagree.. credit cards are easier to carry around although easier to loose and identity theft is unfortunitly sometimes the end product of the situation.

    I know someone who loses her cards all the time! Then things go bad from identity theft…so i disagree with credit cards.

    I really like your big brothers (Levi) advice! You can tell Levi took CFM and Accounting last year. Keep spreading the good word…save and pay yourself first (PYF).

    Now that I learned that 95% of bills are made of cocaine, I might buy from gift cards from now on.

    Money is gross. Go cards. Start out debit, as long as you keep your minimum balance and don’t lose it you can’t get in trouble. Eventually go credit, start small, candy, itunes purchases, sodas. Pay it off, build credit. Then use that when applying for loans.
