No matter what the season, Galway is always a center for fascinating and unique activities. Whether you spend the day in the bustling hallways of our school, enjoy the country charm of the Capital Region, or explore the lush forests of the Adirondacks, the area always has something new to offer.  This year, the Village Press is partnering with the Eagles Media Center to commemorate our community members’ adventures in a limited edition coffee table book, tentatively titled “Colors of Galway.” Featuring memorable quotations, poetry, and—of course—countless pictures, the coffee table book will capture the fleeting moments that embody the character of our quaint little town.

The inspiration for “Colors of Galway” is rooted firmly in our business’s commitment to the uniqueness of our community.  We were able to put our ideas into action this year with the support of the Galway Community Education Foundation and the Saratoga Program for Arts Funding.  In October, the Galway Community Education Foundation awarded our program over $1,400 to expand our photography and publishing ventures.  Purchasing a high-quality camera and photo back-drop set, we set up a professional photo studio (named “The Booth”) and have begun to catalogue Galway’s myriad activities.  The grant from the Saratoga Program for Art Funding is more recent, awarded to The Galway Public Library with an emphasis on our coffee table book.  Regarding our grants, business teacher Mr. Swain said, “I am so excited that the Galway business students get this opportunity.  These grants highlight the value and promise of our department, and we’re so appreciative of their support!” Awarding a generous sum of $2,500, Saratoga Arts has provided the financial support to print high-quality, professional books this spring. The Galway Community in Images, Words, and
Sound is the official title of the grant and this program is made possible in part with funds from the Saratoga Program for Arts Funding (SPAF) part of the Decentralization regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), administered by Saratoga Arts.”

In the coming months, here’s where you can help!  As part of our book project, EMC and the Village Press are reaching out to the Galway community for pictures, quotes, and poetry to include in our book.  Whether you enjoy horseback riding in the Adirondacks, playing basketball, or baking homemade pies, we’re interested in showcasing your talents.  Send us your masterpieces today, and we’ll let you know if your work will be featured in our upcoming publication!

If you have a suggestion for the book title please post it in the comments below. If you need more information or would like to submit your work, we’re just an email away: [email protected]
