The Looking Glass War

Dylan J. Loux

The Looking Glass War was written by Frank Beddor.  Beddor was inspired to write the book thanks to Lewis Carroll’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In this book the story Lewis wrote is actually a distortion of the “True Story”. This article is a fantasy novel series. Frist published in United Kingdom in 2004, this book was then released two years later in the United States.

The main protagonist in Princess Alyss Heart, Daughter to Queen Genevieve Heart and King Nolan Heart both characters based on the White King and Queen of Lewis series. On the day of Alyss’s seventh birthday Redd Heart, base off of the Red Queen, staged a coup d’état against her sister Genevieve for banishing Redd to the Chessboard Desert.

After escaping the Heart’s palace with the Help of Genevieve’s Bodyguard Hatter Madigan, loosely based on the Mad Hatter, and carried Alyss to the Pool of Tears, an ocean connecting Wonderland with Earth. Once in the water Alyss and Hatter become separated for the next thirteen years.

My opinion of this story is that it was intriguing to read another version of Alice in Wonderland. I also discovered that this book was the base of Alice in Wonderland the movie.  I rate this Book a 5 out of 5. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series The Looking Glass War: Seeing Redd.
