I have been reading a variety of genres recently, reading a womping 1,511 pages in four books between March and now.
Private Peaceful by Michael Morpungo was about a boy, Tommy, who goes through many challenges and ends up fighting in a war against the Germans. This is a good book for a person that likes to read or learn about historical fiction.
The Running Dream by Wendelin VanDraanen is Mrs. Deckers’ book (I borrowed it for a little while). This book was about a girl who was on a track team, and on her way to a meet, got into an accident and ended up losing her leg, having to undergo surgery, and ending up running with a prosthetic leg. You will have to read the book and see what happens as this girl experiences running with a prosthetic leg. This is a great book for those who like to read first person narratives.
Some of you may have soon the movie but I read The Help. This book is about maids during the 1960s. It tells the story of how a journalist records their stories, both the good and bad. This is a great book for a historical fiction read.
Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson is set during the 1770’s and is about two sisters that are sold to a couple and go through many obstacles to find freedom. Also, if you like this book there is a sequel Forge. This is another awesome book for those who like to read first person diary-like stories.
Jay’s Journal is about a boy who battled addiction and eventually faces serious consequences that involve his parents, siblings, and best friends. It is a book that provides a wake-up call for some and some others should avoid because it is emotionally intense.
I hope these books spike your interest. Let’s get reading!

I am jealous of all the reading you get to do! I really enjoyed “The Help” as well. Did you see the movie? I haven’t since I was afraid it wouldn’t measure up!
