Memorial Day in Galway

This year marked the debut of the EMC/GTV float in the Memorial Day Parade. The float was constructed by Schuyler Arnold, Ryan Lovelass, Natalie Zembsch, Siela Zembsch, and Ella Decker.

EMC and GTV staffers assembled at the Dockstader Fields, along with other groups, to line up for the parade. The weather was not cooperating though, and the rain picked up as everybody prepared their floats. The group was told that the parade was cancelled, and that certain groups would not be marching. The band could not march due to the heavy rain and the fact that instruments could be ruined.

Thanks to EMC/GTV and the other groups that were ready to proceed, the decision was made that the parade must go on, rain or shine! The group had a great time passing out candy to the assembled families on the parade route. “I thought it was sad that it was rainy, but it was fun riding on the float with Alex,” Schuyler Arnold commented.

The High School Band assembled under the overhang at the front entrance of the school, to play for the special Memorial Day ceremony. Mr. Barrow was recognized for 24 years of service to the event. Emma Jordan, 6th grader and Girl Scout, read the poem “In Flanders Field” for the ceremony. A wreath was placed at the monument in front of the school as the Galway Senior Citizens Group, and the Galway and Perth Fire Corps looked on. Christian Chase, a senior in the band, ended the ceremony with a beautiful rendition of “Taps” on his trumpet.

EMC and GTV staffers are already looking forward to next year, when they will march again, rain or shine!
