Amber Schwab, E-way Intern

My name is Amber Schwab and I am a senior at Galway High School. I have been involved with many activities within the community of Galway, many involving sports. I played basketball on modified, JV, and Varsity levels up until my senior year. I am also a softball player, not only for Galway but for other neighboring schools during the offseason. My junior year on Varsity Softball I was named captain along with another teammate. I believe that sports have influenced me a lot throughout my high school experience, especially with making friends with the girls on each team. Most peers in Galway would agree that I am a very outgoing person and I think that this trait of mine will help me for my future.

After high school, I plan on attending SUNY Plattsburgh and majoring in Accounting. I was drawn to Plattsburgh because of the good review on their business program and the town reminds me of Galway. SUNY Plattsburgh isn’t extremely far from home, but far enough to experience what it is like being away from my hometown. I don’t plan on playing softball in college because I want to focus on my studies. I am excited to start this new chapter in my life and see what the experience brings for me.

I was interested in my future field because of the business courses offered here at Galway High School. I took the Accounting course my junior year and that is when I realized that it was something I wanted to pursue. Also, my Accounting course involved me with interning at the Eway Cafe in our high school. As I was caught up on my work in my Accounting course, I would periodically help within the school store with the senior interns at the time. I decided that I wanted to be an intern as a senior from this. Helping was a whole different experience from what I am involved with now. For the Eway store, everyone helps with everything. I believe that the only way to get things done and ready for selling days, is for all of the interns to put forth effort in making the store run to the best of its ability. I think our group of interns this year are a great aspect for the store. Each one of us has different strengths and perspectives, which helps us bring new ideas to the store. It was difficult to make this work in the first few months of running the store, but we soon realized that in order for the business to work, we would have to accept each other’s views and ideas. I believe that Eway is an awesome experience for me to have for a future involving business.
