The annual spelling bee for students in grades 4-8 happened during 7th and 8th period on January 11th in the auditorium. Kaya Horvath, Hannah King, Emma Spadaro and Jordan Zuk represented the 7th graders.  Henry Flint, Xavier Russell, Jonathan Trifiletti and Leanne Rydzewski represented the 8th grade.

Hannah King was the top 7th grade speller and Leanne Rydzewski was the top 8th grade speller.

With the exception of the overall winner Eben Perkins (a 5th grader), students departed the stage after adding extra letters to words like clodhopper, reversing letters in words such as dandruff, or having the wrong vowel in the first syllable of perilous or the last syllable of esteem.

Eben Perkins’ final words in the contest were rendition and avian.  He will represent Galway in the WSWHE BOCES Bee later this year.
