Galway girls heading to the state tourney!

In sectional action, the varsity volleyball team defeated Waterford Saturday evening at Burnt Hills. With game scores of 19-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, the girls won the Class D final.

Senior Emily Zawisa explained, “After the first two games it was almost like we had given up and admitted defeat, but we came together and took that third game. From there our momentum took us and we played amazing. Plays were smooth and everything was flowing. Then we took the fourth game and Waterford was where we had just been two games prior. Once we got our lead in the fifth game, we brought it home and finished it. It is the most amazing feeling in the world to know that we had come back and won after losing the first two. Having everyone there to cheer us on every point helps immensely.”

Patricia Sowle, parent of senior Courtney Sowle, added, “It was the most exciting game I’ve ever watched. We were so proud of the girls to come back after losing the first 2 games and win the whole thing.”

How does the team prepare for a big game? “Now it time to work on our weaknesses and focus on the little things. Trying not to tire ourselves out, but still work hard and perfect what we can,” Zawisa commented.

Galway will play Section X Chateaugay at 6:30pm Wednesday night at the Saratoga High School in the state tournament’s first round, so make plans now to get to the game and cheer the ladies to the next round! Go Eagles!
